Student ANZAC pride

Emily Gardiner is eager to keep the ANZAC spirit alive.
The Alkira Secondary College year 11 student is one of 22 student recipients of the Premier’s ANZAC Prize who will visit Canberra in April.
Emily’s winning entry, an essay based on a quote from John Steinbeck which was  ‘All war is a symptom of man’s failure as a thinking animal’ –. has earned her a spot at the Premier’s ANZAC Day luncheon after being announced as a regional finalist on the 5 February.
The 16 year-old said it was an honour to be chosen.
“I would just like to say the study tour that I have been awarded is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Australia’s war history,” she said.
“I am extremely excited to travel to Canberra in July and it is a privilege that I was chosen as a candidate from all students in Victoria,” she said.
In the July school holidays, Emily will also spend three days in Canberra visiting the War Memorial, Parliament House, Australian Film and Sound Archive, National Portrait Gallery and other places of national significance.
