Writing on the wall for Scorpions

VICTORIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
REVIEW – ROUND 12

EMBARRASSED out of the contest, Casey could only scrape together a scant 30 points against high-flying Williamstown.
It could have been much worse for the Scorpions as they only mustered nine points up to the final break.
Williamstown kept the home side scoreless through the first term and allowed just the one goal up to half time as Dylan Conway (5 goals) and Anthony Anastasio (4 goals) kicked the Gulls far into the lead.
Some consolation came late in the clash once the match was completely in Williamstown’s pocket as Sam Blease drilled two goals to bring the margin back to 80 points by the final siren.
The Melbourne contingent stood tallest in the thumping as Jay Kennedy-Harris (31 disposals, 9 tackles), Luke Tapscott (30 disposals) and Sam Blease (23 disposals) made the best of the horrific outcome while Jack Fitzpatrick (44 hit outs) held his own in the ruck.
Casey sits 13th on the VFL ladder and has to catch-up three matches on eighth place to make the finals. Seven rounds remain to amend their poor form with the Scorpions next facing Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Saturday morning from 11am.
On the positive side of the ledger, the Casey Scorpions Pink Ribbon Lunch raised $19,500 for charity.
