YEAR nine students at Cranbourne East Secondary College learned a wide variety of useful skills when they planned and hosted a community day at the school.
The Thursday 20 October event saw students engage with local businesses and charities to bring a day of fun and food to the school community.
The fete/carnival day was planning and run entirely by students at the school and took 14 weeks to organise.
The students learned skills such as collaboration, planning, budgeting, resilience and much more to give their whole community a day to remember.
With food stalls, petting zoo, jumping castle, and even water bombing teachers, the students had no shortage of things to do on the community day.
The Cranbourne East Secondary College Community Day was a huge success according to Pedagogy Leader Gillian Andrews.
“They are taught skills leading up to the day but, ultimately, it’s all up to them,” she said.
“The project shows students what they are capable of and the success of this project is reflected in how engaged and responsible the students are, especially in year nine where data shows that students often lose connection with their schooling.”
