CRANBOURNE South Primary School students dug deep recently and planted more than 600 trees in less than two hours at Botanic Ridge.
About 60 Grade 5 and 6 students visited the residential estate and namesake new suburb on 3 August to plant the trees as part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day initiative.
City of Casey environmental experts were on hand to inform the students about the benefits of planting trees for a cleaner, greener future. Students planted native trees along Pearcedale and Browns roads, which adjoin the Botanic Ridge residential estate.
Botanic Ridge development manager Joe Cassera said the initiative provided a great opportunity to engage school children in tree planting and a hands-on and fun educational experience.
“Following a successful planting endeavour with Cranbourne South Primary School last year, we’re excited to welcome the school kids once again to help revegetate this beautiful area and what is now Casey’s newest suburb,” Mr Cassera said.
“With the school just across the road, we hope students will enjoy seeing their trees grow over time.”
