The City of Casey is rapidly outpacing its nearest neighbours, recording 137 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

That’s compared to 33 in Cardinia Shire, and 63 in the City of Greater Dandenong.

There are now 1005 active Covid cases in Casey.

It comes as Victoria records its worst day in the pandemic to date, with 1838 cases acquired locally in the past 24 hours.

This is also a new record for Australia.

In more positive news, Victoria’s vaccination rate is climbing steadily; but areas across Casey vary drastically with certain postcodes lagging behind according to data released by the State Government.

Postcode 3177, taking in Doveton and Eumemmerring, is hovering at around 30-35 per cent fully vaccinated eligible residents.

Endeavour Hills in postcode 3802 is between 40-45 per cent fully vaccinated.

Hallam is also low at 35-40 per cent fully vaccinated.

In Hampton Park, postcode 3976, only 35 to 40 per cent of residents are double dosed while 75-80 per cent have had one dose.

The area hosted a pop-up vaccination centre this week.

Postcode 3805, which takes in Narre Warren and Narre Warren South and which was subject to a vaccination blitz last month, around 80 per cent of the eligible population has had one dose and 40 per cent have had two.

Postcode 3806 – Harkaway and Berwick – has a far higher double-dose rate at 50 to 55 per cent, in line with the wider Victorian rate of 56 per cent double dosed.

Likewise, postcode 3980, including the waterside towns of Tooradin, Blind Bight and Warneet, has 50-55 per cent of eligible residents fully vaccinated, and 85-90 per cent on their first dose.

Meanwhile, a number of new tier 1 sites have appeared on the government’s exposure site list.

Astra Early Learning in Narre Warren South is also a tier 1, with a positive case having attended the Shrives Road site on Tuesday 5 October between 7.15am and 3.45pm.
