Car goes up in flames

A car turned into a fireball after exploding in Cranbourne on Monday morning, 27 January.

Video of the incident emerged after emergency services attended the incident near Toirram Crescent about 2am.

Video showed the car well alight before an explosion occurred, lighting up the night sky.

Residents posted to Facebook’s Casey Crime Page saying they were awoken hearing a bang.

“It shook the whole house quite a few of us were outside wondering what had happened,” one posted.

One woman posted: “This is what rattled the gate so early in the morning.”

Firefighters from Cranbourne and Narre Warren fire brigades attended the scene and brought the blaze under control within half-an-hour.

It’s believed the car was a four-wheel-drive and no occupants were present at the scene.

There were reports an LPG tank exploded before fire crews arrived but this is yet to be confirmed.

Police say they are treating the fire as suspicious and are investigating.
