An elderly Cranbourne couple is seeking the public’s help after losing an envelope containing a large amount of cash at Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre.

Janine Dickinson said her parents were devastated, after discovering the envelope was either stolen or lost as they went Christmas shopping for their 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren on Thursday 5 December about 1pm.

“Dad had given to mum in the morning. She put it in her handbag, she’s not sure if she lost it or if someone’s taken it,” she said.

“She has a habit of leaving her handbag in the trolley.”

Ms Dickinson said she preferred not to disclose how much cash was missing.

“We’re just sort of hoping that somebody might come forward and say ‘well what information do you know so then I’m making sure that I’m giving it to the right person’,” she said.

“I’ve rung all the shops … I know the chances are highly unlikely.”

She said her parents, aged in their 70s, visited Harris Scarfe, Coles, and Best and Less – but has also walked from end of the centre to the other.

“It’s just their Thursday ritual they’ve done for 30 years.”

Ms Dickinson also took to social media to appeal for help.

“Mum has been devastated since realising the money is missing and we are hoping someone honest may have found it and not been able to return it to its rightful owner,” the post said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cranbourne Police on 5991 0600.
