Cranbourne Bowls Club will receive a facelift thanks to a funding investment announced by Holt Labor MP Anthony Byrne.

The funding worth $550,000 will allow the club install a new kitchen, flooring, a synthetic green, LED lighting, solar power, work sheds, water tanks and a barbeque area.

The Cranbourne Bowls Club was founded in 1963 and now includes barefoot bowling every Friday night, all ability days every fortnight, school training days, trivia games evenings, competition days, and more.

Mr Byrne said he was excited to support the club which now has 134 members.

“I wish to congratulate Mr John McKenna, chairman of the Cranbourne Bowls Club and the club committee for presenting an exciting vision for the club’s future,” he said.

“In a rapidly growing region it is vital we upgrade local facilities like the Cranbourne Bowls Club that can be used by the general public for weddings and; birthdays; as there is a great demand on local halls and public venues in the Cranbourne area.”

Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator Don Farrell, said Labor was committed to supporting clubs and communities to improve local sporting facilities to give all Australians a fair go at sport.

“Whether they want to enjoy the health and social benefits of grassroots sport or aspire to compete at a higher level, we want to give all Australians the chance to enjoy sport,” Senator Farrell said.

“Our investments in facilities like these help communities build capacity enable more Australians to participate in sport and live active, healthy lifestyles,” Senator Farrell said.
