Police are urging people to remember to keep their houses secure after an aggravated burglary in Narre Warren overnight between Monday 8 May and Tuesday 9 May.
A 26-year-old female and 14-year-old male were asleep when an unknown person or people entered their Prairie Court home via an unlocked back door.
The thief stole a purse that contained cash and cigarettes.
The occupants of the house woke in the morning to find the kitchen light had been left on by the intruder and the purse missing.
Police are appealing for witnesses or neighbours with CCTV systems in the area to contact Casey Crime Investigation Unit on 9705 3111.
