Night-time commuters on the Monash Freeway can expect long detours this weekend as works on widening the freeway ramp up.
The Clyde Road outbound on-ramp will be closed between 10pm and 6am from 24 to 27 March for the installation of safety barriers, gantry, technology conduits and pavement works.
The Western Distributor Authority (WDA) suggests drivers wanting to enter the freeway at Clyde Road traveling south use the inbound on-ramp and re-enter the freeway outbound at the Princes Hwy.
A detour will be in place that will divert traffic traveling north on Clyde Road away from the freeway and along the Princes Highway to use the outbound on-ramp at this point.
Sunday 26 March will also bring closures to the inbound lanes of the Monash Freeway between the Princes Highway and Stud Road from 10pm to 5am.
The inbound lanes will be closed to allow for safe removal on gantries and further detours will be in place to manage traffic.
Drivers travelling toward the city on the Monash between these times will be diverted along the Princes Highway from Narre Warren.
The detour will take drivers along the Princes Highway through Hallam and Eumemmering before connecting with the South Gippsland Highway at Dandenong.
Drivers will then be directed through the centre of Dandenong and onto Stud Road, though North Dandenong and back onto the Monash Freeway.
Another night of closures is scheduled for Monday 27 March between 10pm and 5am with outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway closed between Wellington Road and Heatherton Road.
Outbound commuters on the Monash will be diverted from the freeway at Wellington Road and directed to Stud Road.
The detour will continue along Stud Road to Heatherton Road where commuters will be able to access the freeway via the Heatherton Road on-ramp.
The detours and works will cause delays to trips and drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time when planning their travel.
