HOONS on mini bikes have caused hundreds of dollars’ worth of damage to a car parked in a Cranbourne 7- Eleven.
The attack occurred in December and was captured on CCTV footage by the shop assistant who watched in dismay as his relatives’ car was pelted with stones.
Cranbourne resident Saahil Luthra had let his cousin, who works at the Evans Road petrol station, borrow his car for the night when the incident occurred.
“There were two of them on mini bikes and they did this on purpose,” Mr Luthra told Star News.
“It was their intention, they were revving their bikes near my car and broke the driver’s side window.
“It cost me $300 to get it fixed with a second-hand window,” he said.
The incident happened about 2.30am and Mr Luthra said his cousin is now too scared to borrow his car.
“My cousin called police at the time but they said they were too busy to make it,” Mr Luthra said.
But this isn’t Mr Luthra’s first experience with hoons – he deals with them on a weekly basis.
“I live on Camms Road and we get small dirt bikes and mini bikes going up and down the road of an evening.
“It starts at around 6pm and it can be off and on until 1am,” he said.
Mr Luthra has lived at his home for four years and said the hooning started in mid-2015.
“It’s very bad. I’ve seen them not stop at traffic lights on Camms Road and drive on the wrong side of the road,” he said.
“They wake my baby up in the night and when we go for walks my wife has had to stop due to all the smoke.”
Mr Luthra said Friday and Saturday nights seem to be the worst for such behaviour.
