THE ceiling fire at the foyer of the Amstel Golf Club which erupted on Monday 14 September afternoon has been deemed non-suspicious by Victoria Police.
Manager at the Cranbourne club Peter Butler said it was a typical Monday and everyone was safely evacuated despite the “lively” events.
“We are not overly sure what started the blaze however it didn’t start in the roof cavity but external to the building,” Mr Butler said.
A large timber feature wall adjacent to the entrance is believed to have been the site of the blaze.
“We were fairly lucky that it was at the front entrance which gave us plenty of time to remove people so that wasn’t a concern,” he said.
It’s believed about 50 people were evacuated from the club, about 1pm, and Mr Butler said the foyer was out of use due to the “extensive damage”.
“It will most likely take a few weeks to rectify and see what else was harmed by smoke but there was no water damage,” he said.
Daily operations at the club are running as usual.
