Book characters come alive

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

BOOK Week at Cranbourne West Primary School was all about reading.
Along with the school’s book character parade held on Friday 28 August, the school engaged students with reading activities throughout the week.
Books shortlisted for the ‘Children’s Book of the Year Award’ were read in all classrooms and the most deserving winners were discussed.
“Teacher spoke to students about how books are written and published, and parents were invited to join their children in class for the morning,” the school’s Debbie Nobbs explained.
The dress-up parade showed off the children’s favourite book characters which included Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, Mrs Wishy Washy, Madeline, SpongeBob Square Pants and Goldilocks.
“Dressing up allowed everyone to talk about what character they had chosen and why, providing another opportunity to build a strong connection with reading.
“And the students loved seeing their principal, Mr Bergmeier, dressed up as the Cat in the Hat,” she said.
