KINGS in Narre Warren does more than help kids learn to swim.
This week the local swimming group is hosting the Kings Kids Float, a fundraiser to help children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
The fundraiser, which started on Monday, has been coordinated with the help of AMAZE – the peak body for Autism Spectrum Disorder in Victoria – and will see the Narre Warren facility host a ‘pool-wide’ back float in every swimming lesson.
Centre Manager Samantha Shaw said nearly one per cent of children in the community were diagnosed with some type of autism.
“Any donation, however large or small, will make a real difference,” she said.
“All funds raised locally will be reinvested locally, ensuring that our community spirit is heard.
“If you know someone who is participating, I encourage you chip in where you can.
“If you don’t know someone, we invite you to come and visit us at our centre in Narre Warren and make a donation.”
Kings’ General Manager Scott Field said the organisation had been excited to form an association with AMAZE.
“We are excited to work in partnership with AMAZE to make a real impact in our swim programs in Victoria, Canberra and New South Wales,” he said.
“With their expertise and guidance we’re really hoping that the Kings Kids Float taking place across our centres will help generate more awareness and ultimately, greater access for more families.”
The local Kings Centre is located at 4-12 The Avenue, Narre Warren South. For more information, contact Kings on 8790 1777.
