Ice forum survives cuts

By BRIDGET SCOTT

DESPITE funding cuts to ice forums throughout Victoria, an event scheduled for Narre Warren this month will still go ahead.
City of Casey’s Councillor Susan Serey raised the issue in urgent business at last night’s council meeting, seeking to call on the State Government to reinstate funding for the ice forums across the state including Narre Warren.
However this morning (Wednesday) it was announced that despite the cuts, an ice forum in Narre Warren relating to sporting clubs would still go ahead.
She also moved that council write to the Minister for Mental Health, Martin Foley MP to express council’s disappointment in the cancelled funding for ice forums and seeking consideration to reinstate these forums.
The councillor’s colleagues threw their support behind the motion and said they had to do all they could to help ice affected people.
A Good Sports Forum on the issue is scheduled for Wednesday 11 March in the City of Casey Council Chambers between 6-8.30pm.
The forum was funded by the previous Victorian Government and had been suspended by the Victorian Department of Health, but recently has recently been reinstated.
