Swans sing a sad song

CASEY-SOUTH MELBOURNE (136) is now alone at the foot of the Premier Cricket ladder, the only team not to taste victory after five rounds after going down to Greenvale Kangaroos (4/137) at Gardens Oval.
Swans skipper Chris Hall won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that looked to backfire after Victorian wicketkeeper Matt Wade (9) and fellow opener Daniel Watson (9) were both taking the pads off with the score on 18.
A steadying, and much-needed, 45-run stand between Michael Wallace (38) and Lachlan Sperling (25) appeared to calm things down, before Norman Vanua (5/47) ran through the Swans’ middle to lower order like a hot knife through butter.
Vanua took five wickets on the trot, sinking the Swans who fell from 4/98 to 9/127.
In reply, the Kangaroos had little trouble with the Swans’ attack, Brendan Rose (2/36) providing the only highlight with a fiery opening spell.
Ben Cox (56 not out) and Jack Shantry (17 not out) steered the Kangaroos home with an unbeaten 74-run stand.
The Swans will be looking for their first victory of the season when they host Hawthorn-Monash University at Casey Fields this Saturday.
Day one of the two-day clash commences at 11am.
