Spring in for great produce

Peter Mullins has an abundance of fresh spring produce.

SPRING has arrived and so has the fresh produce at the Berwick Farmers’ Market, held in the grounds of the picturesque Old Cheese Factory, Berwick.
The selection of fresh fruit and vegetables available at the market is amazing. Obtain a recipe card from the asparagus stallholder and learn how to use this wonderful vegetable.
Try the fantastic swiss brown mushrooms for purchase from The Mushroom Man. He is an enthusiastic, friendly stallholder who will advise about storing this fantastic product and the health benefits that fresh mushrooms contain.
The fruits of spring are beginning to appear, particularly strawberries. Purchase a punnet or two and enjoy with your favourite ice cream or on breakfast cereal.
Spring is also the time for salads. Look for the great salad components that can purchase from stallholders.
Don’t forget the meat stalls with their excellent selection of beef, lamb, pork, game and poultry on offer. Speak with the stallholders about Christmas orders and make sure that you have orders placed early.
Take a break, have a coffee, enjoy a barbecue breakfast offered by the Rotary Club of Berwick, listen to the jazz band and let the kids play on the playground equipment.
The October market will be held at The Old Cheese Factory, Berwick, on Saturday 25 October, from 8am to 12.30pm.
Do not forget the Twilight Christmas Market (4pm until 8pm) to be held on Tuesday 23 December, with gifts for the kids and a visit by Santa.
