STUDENTS, teachers and parents had a hand in creating a colourful mural at Rangebank Primary School which celebrated the school’s Hindi connection.
On Thursday last week, the school community were given the opportunity to place a paint hand print on a 360 metre-long paling fence.
Some students were also involved in decorating the fence further with spray paint using water guns.
Rangebank Primary School principal Colin Avery said the activity was part of their Hindi language studies.
“Rangebank is the first school in Australia to introduce the Hindi language to all students from foundation to Year 6,” he said.
“As part of our studies of India, we were looking at ways to celebrate Holi the ‘festival of colours’.
“So instead of throwing coloured dye and powder over each other, we chose to use colourful paint to decorate our fence.”
Mr Avery said the students, teachers and parents involved loved the activity.
“Students and parents have both commented on the wonderful experience and opportunity to contribute to our school and the community, as the mural is easily seen by anyone passing by,” he said.
“The smiles on the faces of the children was a highlight and contributed to the very positive feeling our school community felt on the day.
“The biggest plus from painting the fence is that the community came together to provide a wonderful mural for everyone in our community to be proud of.
“As a school that strongly believes in multiculturalism, our students and staff have clearly demonstrated their pride in our school, traditions and values.”
