LYNBROOK Primary School took a trip around the globe last week as they celebrated the school’s cultural diversity.
On Thursday, the school held a ‘Happy to Be Me’ day, where students embraced the different cultures represented throughout the school community.
Lynbrook Primary School Prep co-ordinator Rebekah Booth said it was a great day with a range of performances and activities.
“Aboriginal elder Rosalyn Gardener opened the morning assembly with a touching ‘welcome to country’ message,” she said.
“The school rock band engaged the crowd with their lively performance of ‘Happy’, spreading the message of the day.
“Children from Prep to Grade 6 performed as the school travelled around the globe visiting countries that are represented across our student population.
“Beginning in Romania, the journey passed through Ireland, Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, Samoa, Cook Islands, New Zealand before landing in Australia where our colourful adventure explored the Dreamtime, culminating with the Slim Dusty classic ‘G’Day, G’Day’.
“Guest performer Jayden entertained the crowd with his modern Indigenous music, involving the crowd who happily sang and clapped along.”
Ms Booth said the day culminated in a closing assembly, where the school choir performed and a drumming group entertained.
The day concluded with each of the 44 classes adding their puzzle piece of a giant rainbow serpent to form an art installation.
