Not in our street

RESIDENTS of a quiet Cranbourne street have opposed to a three-unit development proposed for their neighbourhood.
A petition, with nine signatures, was tabled at Casey’s council meeting last week on behalf of residents objecting to a planning application.
The proposal is for three units in Dearing Avenue, Cranbourne, which would include two, three-bedroom units and one, two-bedroom unit.
Head petitioner Dorothy Knowles said nearby residents had a number of concerns with the proposed development.
“There are three dwellings on one block, with three driveways, and two of those units having three bedrooms,” she said.
“Three bedrooms is basically a house, not a unit.
“You could assume people renting them will be families, possible with teenagers, or a group of people.
“There’s a great possibility that each unit would have at least two cars and there’s only one carport per unit.
“That’s a lot of extra cars to park in the street.
“You could imagine the traffic that is going to generate.”
Ms Knowles said there were also some safety concerns with the increased traffic.
“We have a daycare centre and school nearby and a lot of kids walk around this area to get to and from these facilities,” she said.
“We have enough idiots flying up and down these streets as it is, we don’t need more cars.”
Ms Knowles urged the council to take into account the residents in the area when considering the planning application.
“Think about the people who have been paying the rates all these years,” she said.
“If you start building high-density living, it spoils our quiet streets for us, especially for someone like me who has retired.”
The City of Casey did not return the News’ inquiry before we went to print.
