A CASEY Council candidate has been charged with a string of deception related offences ahead of this weekend’s election.
Police said a 25-year-old Cranbourne North man was charged with 15 counts of obtaining property by deception and using false documents. He was bailed to appear at Dandenong Magistrates Court on 8 February.
Dandenong Magistrates Court said Jamie Kenmure was bailed on 16 October, to face deception related charges.
Mr Kenmure, a candidate in the Mayfield Ward, is also a Casey Radio presenter and a champion chess player.
He is one of three candidates in the Mayfield Ward to list suspended Casey Councillor Kevin Bradford as a second preference.
Mr Kenmure is one of two candidates to have been charged with offences during the election campaign.
On 9 October, former councillor Paul Richardson who is a candidate for Four Oaks Ward, was charged on summons to appear in Dandenong Magistrates Court at a later date.
He was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest following a chaotic scene at a Casey Council meeting earlier this year.
The City of Casey also charged Mr Richardson under the local law for refusing to cease behaviour that was disruptive and unruly and failing to sit down and remain silent when called to order.
Mr Kenmure’s mother spoke to the News on his behalf, and said he did not wish to make a comment regarding the charges.
A Victorian Electoral Commission spokesperson said that if a person was elected to the council and had been convicted of a crime, then it was up to the local council to review the matter under section 29 of the Local Government Act.
