STUDENTS of Alkira Secondary College will have their initiative and leadership rewarded from the new Abigroup Leadership Award.
Abigroup, in conjunction with Alkira Secondary College, has launched the Abigroup Leadership Award for students. The annual award will recognise those who demonstrate leadership and drive throughout the year.
The award will not only encourage achievement within the school but also in the larger community.
“The vision and values for Alkira were very much aligned with Abigroup’s values and our commitment to local community involvement could be fulfilled tangibly through a student award that embodied our values of teamwork, respect, accountability, integrity, lifestyle and high performance which drove our people to strive to reflect these values in delivering our projects to our clients,” Rose Fleming, Abigroup’s site engineer, said.
Abigroup, which built the Alkira Secondary College and eight other schools in the area, has become ingrained in the local community.
It is involved with implementing a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden into local primary schools, helping students learn to grow vegetables and have good food habits. Abigroup has also partnered with the YMCA to provide community services that support the newly built schools, providing facilities to the community such as aquatic centres and community hubs.
The Abigroup involvement with the Alkira Secondary College began at the school’s inception.
