Environment poster

Tony Sowersby, an artist from Seaford, transferred six-year-old Christian’s artwork from an A4 poster to a mural a little over a square metre.
The artwork, containing an important environmental message, will be mounted at the Mount Martha treatment plant before being displayed at the school.
The project was a result of Christian winning the first prize in the prep category of a Water-Learn it! Live it! poster contest during water conservation week. Christian’s art was a depiction of his mother helping him ‘pick rubbish off the beach to save the fishies.’
Christian worked with Mr Sowersby for three hours last Friday to transfer the art to the mural. Other Tooradin primary students were also able to lend a hand to the project, as well as keep him busy by asking questions about art and the environment.
Mr Sowersby said he was happy to help and believes it is important to learn about water management at a young age.
“Water conservation is so vital,” said Mr Sowersby, who often helps school children express themselves through art.
“It’s good to think about water conservation when you’re young, and art is the medium that gets people thinking. It is good fun and it spreads the message.”
