THE marketing and tourism coordinator for the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne last week won the Lynette Bergin Tourism Fellowship.
Members of Tourism Alliance Victoria presented Matt Jones, 31, with the award at their annual general meeting last Wednesday.
Mr Jones works at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne and Cranbourne.
He would use the $8000 prize to tour the USA and Canada to learn more about how those countries approached nature-based tourism and in order to share that knowledge with the Victorian tourism industry, he said.
Mr Jones will visit botanic gardens, national parks and other natural attractions in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Mr Jones is the deputy chairman for the Young Tourism Network and on the committee of the Young Australian Tourism Export Council and Japanese Tourism Council in Victoria.
Chief executive of Tourism Alliance Victoria Anthony McIntosh said Mr Jones was one of the future leaders in the tourism industry.
“His contribution to the industry is already impressive, and the fellowship will only serve to strengthen it.”
The Lynette Bergin Fellowship aims to promote skills and excellence among young people, and new entrants into the tourism industry.
