Cranbourne grabs second spot

CRANBOURNE bowlers relished their home green to score a 35-shot win in pennant over Cheltenham on Saturday to move into second position on the ladder.
Cranbourne had strong wins on three rinks, with Brian Gay in superb form to record a 20-shot win.
Ray Travica found touch to record his first win for the season, with a margin of 11 shots and Peter Elgar’s rink continued in its winning vein for an 11-shot win.

Cranbourne (2) lost a winnable match against South Oakleigh by one shot on the final end.
Cranbourne was looking for its first win and held a big lead, but with three rinks losing their final ends, South Oakleigh scrambled to victory by the barest of margins.
Glen Imeson’s rinks were the only winners, with Neil Fell’s rink tying their scores.

Cranbourne (3) bounced back from last week’s loss with a 48-shot win over Cheltenham at home.
Skip Matt Boltong’s team led the way with a brilliant 28-shot win.
Cranbourne won all four rinks to take maximum points from the match.

Cranbourne (4) was outplayed by Burden Park on three rinks to lose its match overall by 33 shots.
Ian Badger’s rink was the only winner, with an 11-shot success.

Cranbourne (5) performed well with a 50-shot victory over Noble Park at home.
Keith Davies’ rink completely dominated its match, with a 34-shot win. The side is undefeated in its section and heads the ladder.

Cranbourne (6) travelled to Parkdale and shared the four rinks for a 13-shot loss. Jim Hanks’ rink dominated for a 19-shot win and nearly got the side over the line.
Scores: Parkdale 97 d Cranbourne 84. J. Hanks 32-13, G. Winters 25-23, W. Plumbe 13-32, J. Potts 14-29.

LADIES

Cranbourne (1) was in good touch at Dandenong in the Ladies’ Pennant, putting in a consistent performance to overcome Dandenong RSL/Recreation by 20 shots, winning two rinks and tying one.
Lyn Whalley’s rink led the way with an excellent 16-shot win.

Cranbourne (2) faced Burden Park at home and proved too strong in a solid performance. Cranbourne won three rinks, with Isabel Smith in top form with a 28-shot win.
Thelma Lennon and Erika Woodman’s rinks were also good winners.

Cranbourne (3) played a nailbiter against Edithvale, taking the points with a two-shot win.
The big winner was Renate Van Soest with a 19-shot triumph.

Cranbourne hosted Berwick in hot conditions in the Ladies’ Saturday Pennant, but could not match its opponent.
Cranbourne lost both rinks, with L. Kidd having a chance for victory but falling short by seven shots.
