POLICE are seeking witnesses after a suspicious house fire broke out in Cranbourne last Friday morning.
The Taddor Drive house, which had recently been vacated, was gutted after it was set alight about 2am.
A woman was driving by the house just before 3am when she noticed the fire and immediately called emergency services.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw from Cranbourne CIU said it appeared the rear door of the house had been forced and the front door was left open.
“The fire is being treated as suspicious. It appears someone broke into the house and left through the front door,” he said.
“We have done doorknocks of the local area and the (arson) chemist is still investigating the cause of the fire.
“We are looking at a number of leads at the moment.”
The house belonged to the Ministry of Housing and was destroyed in the fire, with the roof collapsing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Senior Constable Ray Ross at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661.
