A CRANBOURNE retailer is to be charged by police following the sale of 14 illegal flick knives last week.
And those who bought the prohibited weapons also face charges.
Police discovered that 40 flick knives, that come attached to a red laser and key chain, had been imported and were being sold at a variety shop at Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre.
When police searched the store they recovered 26 of the items, priced at $3, and found that 14 had already been sold in the space of a week.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw at Cranbourne CIU said this meant 14 of the illegal weapons, which were only small, but extremely sharp, were ‘out there on the streets’.
“We don’t know what kids might do if they got their hands on these weapons. If parents know anything please let us know,” he said.
“If they are handed back to us now, there will be no penalty.
“However, if anyone is found with one of these flick knives in their possession they will be charged. It is illegal to possess, carry and use a prohibited weapon.”
The business in question is still operating.
A 42-year-old Glen Waverley man has been interviewed and will be summonsed and charged with displaying, possessing and selling a prohibited weapon.
Contact the Cranbourne Police Station on 5991 0661 with information or visit the station on the corner of High and Sladen Streets to hand in a weapon.
