HAMPTON Park Primary School could have been mistaken for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry last Friday.
Harry Potters, Hermione Grangers and Dobbys swarmed the school grounds at the annual school carnival.
The children had a ball with rides galore, stalls, carnival games, food and entertainment at the Harry Potter-themed event.
Assistant principal Connie Vandervoort said the carnival was fantastic, with kids dressing as witches and wizards all day and parents joining them in costume after school.
Ms Vandervoort said each grade had a stall, including a cake stall, haunted house, a stall for the best dressed, frog games organised by the preps, and a cauldron lucky dip.
There were also people selling crafts, as well as the Girl Guides, mounted police, fire brigade, and the launch of the school’s Polynesian Club to start up next year, with dancers from Samoa.
School principal Christine Wakeling said the carnival was the biggest yet, with higher numbers than ever before.
Ms Vandervoort said it was particularly impressive that the carnival was spearheaded by two parents – school council president Kerry Baker and Annette Neilson, who organised everything and led a committee of dedicated volunteers.
“Those two parents came in on weekends, putting up funny ghosts in the school corridors,” she said.
“What made it was the idea of dressing up for the event. That was Kerry’s idea. She said ‘why don’t we do a theme?’”
Harry Potter music rang out over the loud speaker until dark as kids had a ball running from one ride to the other.
