BOTH the young and old turned out in force for the City of Casey’s first Emergency Services Volunteer Recruitment Expo.
The expo featured informative displays and presentations from the local St John Ambulance, CFA, SES and Red Cross services.
Locals listened intently as keynote speaker, Victoria’s Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin, talked about his role providing independent advice to the Government on major issues affecting the state’s emergency management arrangements and emergency services organisations.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the expo provided a great opportunity for residents to meet representatives from each of the emergency services organisations and learn first-hand how the community could help in emergency situations.
“The City of Casey is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Australia, however the current volunteer recruitment rate within these vital community services is not keeping pace with the population growth,” Cr Butler said.
“A strong volunteer base is a vital component for a growing community such as Casey, and to further strengthen this sector council has established a dedicated volunteer participation team to promote greater volunteer participation in the local area through strategies such as these expos.”
