Indoor Beach Volleyball grows in popularity

By Brendan Rees

Indoor Beach Volleyball has a brand new home in Cranbourne West.
Casey Indoor Beach Volleyball manager Adrian Vella said he was very excited to secure a five year lease at a new building site in Latchford Street.
After being left with no choice but to shut down indoor beach volleyball at Casey Stadium when their lease could not be renewed last May, he says the future now looked brighter.
“Every member that plays there at the moment absolutely loves it,” he said, since the building opened on 15 January.
“It was just a building that was being built to lease. It fitted the dimensions we needed so we went for it. It looks awesome.”
The building has two Olympic size beach volleyball courts and two indoor rebound courts. “It’s got a shower which is a bonus,” Mr Vella added.
“At the moment we have around 80 (teams) and we looking to get that back up to over 200”.
He said City of Casey Council was helpful in achieving their plans and permits for the building.
“The owners were actually really happy about us and excited for us to do the beach volleyball.”
“It’s a great location straight off the Westernport Highway.”
Mr Vella said popularity had grown at the new site and welcomed more people to give indoor beach volleyball a go.
If anyone is interested in joining please call Adrian Vella on 0439 477 109.
