A hat-trick feat

By JARROD POTTER

GOALS aplenty flew through the air at Epping Stadium on Friday night as Dandenong City claimed a 7-4 goal fest over Whittlesea Ranges.
The NPL1 clash proved to be a battle on the scoreboard more than on the pitch as both sides pushed through to slot goal-after-goal.
Dario Matkovic deserves just applause following his hat-trick effort in the three-goal triumph, with Damien Miskulin (2 goals) and Shaun Filipovic the other City strikers to get among the scoresheet.
An own-goal from Whittlesea sealed its fate and broke Dandenong City’s two match losing streak.
Dandenong City will host Moreland Zebras on Saturday at Frank Holohan Soccer Complex with an aim to bounce out of eighth place on the NPL1 ladder.
WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE AND STATE LEAGUES
Casey Comets pumped Monbulk Rangers 3-0 on Friday night to push up the Women’s Premier League ladder into eighth place.
A night-time traverse across Comet Stadium proved too much for the Rangers to handle as Casey slammed home its first goal in the 38th minute via Tayla Vlaeminck, who slotted her strike following a goalmouth scramble.
After the break the Comets put another deposit in their goal scoring account, via Angela Durston Ryan (52’) before the match-sealer was headed in by substitute Candela Ferreyra-Bas (85’), getting a strong assist by US college playmaker Brittany Dudley-Smith.
The Comets face Ashburton on Saturday at home from 1pm in its last match of the home-and-away season.
Berwick City is guaranteed relegation following a 1-3 defeat by North Geelong leaving the City girls in last place in Women’s State League 1. Emily Rizkallah scored City’s only goal of the afternoon. Berwick City faces Keilor Park in its final match of the season.
