Wright moves made as massive group plays weekly challenge

In one of the biggest turnouts in South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group history; 64 bowlers descended on the Loch and District Bowling Club for the weekly challenge.

South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group President John Nicholson had the pleasure of welcoming the players to Loch while Bev and Vern Elliott had the huge task of organising the teams for the day.

Once the bowlers were told their teams and went to the green, the weekly challenge began on a warm and humid day.

As usual there were a few wrong-bias bowls sent down, resulting in a donation to the Royal Children’s Hospital tin; but overall, the standard of bowls was very high.

Coming out on top was the team of Shirl Corcoran (3), Aggie Gratton (2), Bev Hyslop (L) and Phil Wright (S), who scored 38 points for a two-shot victory.

Runners up were the team of Bill Sherriff(S), Margaret McConville (L), Max Summers (3) and Robert Benson (2) on 36 points, while best one game winners were Mick Sheers (S), Alison Devine (L), Helen Blake (3) and Derek Fenn (2) with 19 points.

A big thank you to Alex for setting up the green and also a big thank you goes to Trevor for manning the bar and to Robyn and Sally for looking after the kitchen and cleaning up afterwards.

It is never under appreciated just how important volunteers are to making our weekly challenge a success.

This week, Thursday 12 February, the group will be meeting up at Corinella Bowls Club to once again enjoy a great day of social bowls.

Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.

With 64 bowlers attending this week and a capacity of only 56 we will have to be strict on a 10am cut-off time.

We look forward to your attendance again this week.
