Bowlers converge for a very special day at San Remo

What a special day it was for members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group at San Remo Bowls Club on Thursday 25 July.

We had painstakingly planned a “Christmas in July” celebration for our members but unfortunately the skies had opened up and dumped heavy rains down.

This definitely must have had some of our family of bowlers stay at home, but the brave ones tried to see if we could still have a fun day despite the heavy rains.

Anyway 43 of us turned up for what can only be described as a magical day of fun.

When we were set to start, the rains stopped and did not return for the rest of the day.

So, we all went out to enjoy our day.

As usual there was lots of laughter and friendly banter on the green.

There were one or two wrong bias bowls today, but as usual lots of excellent-quality bowls.

Whilst we were out enjoying ourselves Helen and Jill were busy in the kitchen preparing lunch for us all, and what a lunch it was.

So many choices of meats as well as all the side dishes that anyone would want for the lunch break.

After lunch we all went back out for our second game which was just as good as the morning match.

Once again, as we were out playing our afternoon game, Helen and Jill were preparing afternoon tea with pies, sausage rolls as well as many other hot foods.

We also had scones, cakes and a host of other desserts for our players.

We would all like to thank Helen, Jill, Luke and David for all the preparation and managing to get all the gear on site to get the day going.

Also, a huge thank you to Peter, Pauline, John, Steve and all the committee members who helped out with the planning of such a wonderful day.

Once we were all sitting and full after all that food we decided to call the winners for a small prize.

Congratulations to the weekly winners; Raff Merante, Peter McWilliams and Tony Morris.

Before I sign off, I would also like to thank Mark, Claire, Aggie as well as Bob and a few others for the work they did.

It was a great day for our members and we now look forward to next week when we will meet at Loch and get back to our normal day’s games (sorry players, no lunch supplied next week).

Please be on site by 10am for a 10:30 am start.

Meanwhile have a great week.
