Bass a ‘must-win’ for Liberals

Bass is a “must-win” seat for the Liberals, according to Opposition Leader Matthew Guy.

Mr Guy said they were very focused on winning the seat back and winning the trust of locals.

He said their candidate for Bass, Aaaron Brown, had spent his whole life in the region.

“He understands it, he knows it; so we’re very confident that he is our best chance,” Mr Guy said at the Lang Lang Showgrounds on Wednesday 29 June.

“We’ll do everything we can to put our best foot forward.”

On the issue of housing, Mr Guy said they would bring back the Council Planning Flying Squad to assist regional councils in clearing backlogs of planning permits.

“It’s at their request – it doesn’t work over the top of them,” Mr Guy said.

“It was very well received last time.”

He said it would also help bring land to market in towns where a shire wants land released.

Candidates for the seat of Bass include incumbent MP Jordan Crugnale of the Labor Party, Aaron Brown of the Liberal Party and Brett Tessari of The Nationals.

Bass covers the Bass Coast Shire, and parts of the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire. It includes Lang Lang, Caldermeade, Yannathan, Catani, Monomeith, Bayles and Dalmore, plus Koo Wee Rup and Cardinia – to Ballarto Road, and Clyde – to Pattersons Road and Clyde Five Ways Road, and Cranbourne South, Devon Meadows and Pearcedale – to Browns Road and Western Port Highway, as well as smaller coastal towns Warneet, Cannons Creek, Blind Bight and Tooradin.
