Home gardeners will have the opportunity to learn how to grow and care for rare native plants at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne’s Raising Rarity Plant Sale and free Walk on the Wild side tour on Saturday 4 December.
Proceeds from the sale will go to the Raising Rarity Plant Conservation Project.
Walk on the Wild Side is a free guided plant tour, which educates visitors about rare plant conservation.
The 90-minute guided walks will take place between 11am and 2pm, with bookings essential.
John Arnott, Manager Horticulture, and Russell Larke, Team Leader Horticulture, will educate visitors on how Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne grows and protects our threatened flora.
Horticulturist Matthew Henderson will show visitors plant conservation in action and Dr Meg Hirst, from the Victorian Conservation Seedbank, will demonstrate what home gardeners can do to grow and protect the rare and threatened plants, which are available to purchase onsite.
Visitors have the rare opportunity to stock up on rare and threatened plants for their gardens for only $10 each at the Raising Rarity Plant Sale, which will be open for one day only at Cranbourne Gardens.
Visitors will also learn more about the Raising Rarity program, which aims to raise awareness of rare and threatened Victorian wildflower species by giving people the opportunity to grow these at-risk species in their own backyards.
