Funding boost for private primary

A Cranbourne North Catholic primary school will receive more than $2.8 million in State Government funding.

Cranbourne MP Pauline Richards announced on 23 October that St Therese’s Primary School was one of 50 school projects to receive a funding boost as part of the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.

The $2.841 million will go towards building a new classroom, as well as the complete refurbishment of six existing classrooms.

It’s anticipated the project will incorporate both child safety and environment measures, with the new classrooms to feature roof-mounted solar panels, rainwater harvesting and automated louvers.

The school will be able to begin construction on their projects within the next six months.

Ms Richards said the State Government would fast-track funding for upgrades to Catholic and Independent Schools across the region to give students and staff the “best facilities” sooner.

More than a third of Victorian students currently attend Catholic or Independent schools.

Statewide, a total of 56 State Government funded projects will create close to 800 jobs during construction. It follows more than $1.18 billion set aside for new schools, upgrades and expansions of government schools announced in May.

Ms Richards added the investment was “vital” to the Victoria’s economic recovery and would create jobs across the state.

“This project will help St Therese’s Primary School and give local students and staff the best possible facilities,” she said.

Education Minister James Merlino added: “Every child – no matter where they live or go to school – deserves the best facilities. That’s why we’re supporting government, Catholic and Independent schools with record investment to give our kids the best education.”
