Woolies to close at Cranbourne Park

Woolworths has announced it will permanently shut down its Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre store at the end of August, following the opening of a new Cranbourne West store in June.

However, a Woolworths spokesperson has vowed there will be no jobs losses at the store with all 105 employees having been offered redeployment to the new store or others in the area.

Directors of the supermarket giant decided to slash the store from the chain’s national line-up this month – as it coincides with the end of the lease for the Cranbourne Park site.

Woolworths confirmed to Star News that rumours surrounding the supermarket’s closure were accurate.

“At the end of August Woolworths Cranbourne Park will close, following the opening of our new Cranbourne West store nearby in June,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

“All our valued Cranbourne Park team members will be offered redeployment to the new store or others in the area.

“We thank our Cranbourne customers for their support over the years and look forward to welcoming them to our new store.

“With an expanded fresh food section, contemporary fit-out and the convenience of a drive-through pick up, we expect our new Cranbourne West store will be well-received by local customers.”

The opening of the Cranbourne West store will leave two other Woolworths stores remaining in Cranbourne including The Avenue in Cranbourne North and another in Cranbourne East.Woolworths maintains team members at the Cranbourne Park store have been informed and will be redeployed to other Woolworths stores nearby.

“Accordingly, there will be no job losses or reduction in hours for these valued team members,” Woolworths said in a statement.

The new Cranbourne West store will open in June, located on the corner of Evans and Hall roads, about a five-minute drive from the Cranbourne Park site.
