Casey Council is looking for eligible community groups that provide support services to apply for funds as part of the Lynbrook Hotel Community Contributions Fund.
As a condition of its gaming licence, the Lynbrook Hotel has been directed by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) to make an annual cash contribution to the City of Casey.
Casey will receive an annual contribution of $68000 from the Hotel to be distributed to the community in accordance with the conditions of the licence.
The City of Casey will administer these funds under the name – the Lynbrook Hotel Community Contributions Fund.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Geoff Ablett said that in accepting to administer the gaming machine contributions and distribute them to the community, Council is in no way endorsing gaming and gambling providers, products or services.
“We have agreed to take on this responsibility to ensure our community is benefiting and receiving the contributions in a way that provides support back to the communities that need it most”, Cr Ablett said.
“The funds will primarily be distributed to benefit residents of Lynbrook, Lyndhurst and Hampton Park, being the primary patron catchment of the venue, and for the wider Casey community,” he said.
“The distribution of these funds will positively benefit members of the community via the allocation of funds to community groups and organisations that support individuals who are experiencing hardship as a result of problem gambling, that support mental health through activities that promote resilience, social inclusion and social connection, and that promote alternate recreational activities in the municipality to achieve a balance of lifestyle choices for the community.
“Our position on gaming machines has not changed and we are very aware of the social detriment that is caused to our communities as a result of gaming machines. We will continue to maintain our responsibilities to the community including social responsibilities in relation to gaming.”
An information session will be held on 8 October at 7pm at the Lynbrook Community Centre.
Applications will open online from 8 October until 2 November. Applications and guidelines will be available at www.casey.vic.gov.au/fundingandgrants.
