Girl cuts hair for charity

Clyde North’s Hillcrest Christian College Rhea Singh has made a big sacrifice by donating her long locks to charity.

The Year 7 student shed 36cm of her healthy hair which will be sent to Hair with Heart, a campaign managed by Variety.

After watching a very moving video of a young woman affected by cancer and chemotherapy, Rhea Singh knew she had to help others.

The video showed just how much a seemingly small gesture, receiving a wig, could change a woman’s life.

With some encouragement and support from her mum and big sister, Rhea gave her long hair the chop during the recent school holidays.

“It was a big change, but my hair will grow back” said Rhea. “It feels good to know that someone’s life can be changed with my hair.”

Her hair will be made into a wig for children who have lost theirs due to medial conditions.

A hairdresser at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre tied Rhea’s hair back into five pony tails before they were cut off. It was then washed and dried and made into one large pony tail.

Rhea’s Pastoral teacher Germaine Moser said: “I am happy for Rhea; this precious donation will put a smile on someone else’s face.”
