A spate of car fires in the region has Casey Crime Investigation Unit concerned about public safety and asking anyone with information regarding the fires to get in contact with them.
Saturday 28 January saw three separate car fire incidents in Devon Meadows, Tooradin, and Cranbourne North with police unsure if the incidents are connected.
The first of the fires was reported at 1.40am on Lynes Road in Tooradin, when a witness in a nearby property was woken by a loud explosion.
The man saw the fire from his bedroom window and notified emergency services.
Tooradin CFA attended the scene to find the car completely engulfed in flames.
Once the fire was out, they discovered that the car had been stripped before being set alight with the aid of an unknown accelerant.
The car was so damaged by fire police could not locate any identifying plates or serial numbers.
The second incident that morning took place at the intersection of Alisma Boulevard and Merrowland Avenue in Cranbourne North at 1.45pm.
A silver Nissan Pulsar known to be a stolen vehicle was set alight, but police have not yet determined how the fire was started.
The car had been fitted with stolen number plates and while the cause of the fire remains undetermined, police are treating the incident as suspicious.
The most recent fire was called in at 5.30am, located in grasslands opposite 1397 North Road Devon Meadows.
A witness called in the fire to emergency services but no other people or vehicles were seen in the area at the time.
Once CFA crews extinguished the fire, police identified the car as a Chrysler sedan with registration 1IG 70P.
Police ask anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact Casey Crime Investigation Unit on 9705 3111.
