Christmas cheer for needy kids

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

THE Casey Life Church has dispatched more than 200 shoe boxes of gifts for children around the world to celebrate Christmas.
The Hampton Park congregation signed up to in the international relief program by Samaritans Purse earlier this year, and have sent off their boxes to be distributed to needy children, who often miss out on the festive fun.
Lead pastor Graham Shand said seeing the shoe boxes all stacked up was a fantastic sight.
“It was pretty exciting just to see what had been achieved when everyone works together,” pastor Shand said.
The boxes of presents packed for children aged two to 14 years old include toys and books as well as everyday necessities such as clothes, soap and toothbrushes.
Pastor Shand said this wasn’t the first time his congregation had banded together in the lead-up to 25 December.
“Each year for the last 10 years, Casey Life has been involved in similar projects; last year we covered the cost of 400 pairs of shoes for children in Sri Lanka,” pastor Shand said.
