Hello possums! Here’s some cash …

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

FINANCE is no longer a problem for the Narre Warren North Primary School ‘Little Possums’ three-year-old playgroup after they received a $10,000 community grant from the Commonwealth Bank.
For a school that’s been around for 137 years, Principal Connie vanderVoort said “We’re not very well-known in the area.”
“No-one knows we’re here and a grant like this is so beneficial for the school and community as a whole,” Ms vanderVoort explained.
Opening the three-year-old playgroup to cater for the demand in 2014, principal of the last six years Ms vanderVoort said last year’s trial proved quite popular.
“We decided to run the playgroup again this year because there’s nothing in the area for that age group,” she said.
With a four-year-old kindergarten next door, Ms vanderVoort said the school currently had more than enough space to run the program and fill the gap in the community.
“We will continue to run the playgroup depending on how many parents are interested,” she said.
With 15 little possums currently enrolled, Ms vanderVoort said with the extra boost in funds the program could increase its intake and buy suitable equipment.
Run by a qualified early years teacher, the school of 320 students holds the playgroup for parents and three-year-olds once a week.
