STUDENTS at Rangebank Primary School got in touch with a number of different cultures last week during a highly entertaining performance by Bernard Mangakahia.
Mr Mangakahia traced his family history and the culture of the Pacific Island through story and dance, and introduced cultures such as Native Indian American, New Zealand Maori, Hawaiian and Samoan to the children. The performance culminated with an Australian Hip-hop dance that kept the students eyes peeled.
Assistant Principal Lorraine Humphrey said his show had a strong message for the children.
“It showed our students about how it is important for each student to learn about their own heritage, to develop the power of self-belief and respect themselves and others,” she said.
“Some eager and very lucky Rangebank students were fortunate enough to perform in a dance with Bernard.
“He encouraged every student to discover and follow their own dreams.
“Our students enjoyed every second of the show.”
