House fire probed

By BRIDGET SCOTT

POLICE do not believe a fire in Lynbrook last week which totally destroyed parts of a house was deliberately lit.
Last Wednesday afternoon CFA crews were called to a house along Patterson Drive when residents saw smoke coming out of the roof.
The house was soon engulfed in flames however fire crews managed to contain the fire before it spread to neighbouring properties.
Hampton Park, Hallam and Cranbourne Fire Brigades attended the blaze which caused extensive damage to the front lounge room of the property.
Hampton Park CFA Captain Troy Smith said the roof was entirely destroyed and an investigation was underway by the fire investigation unit. He added the cause of the fire was unknown at this stage.
Fire crews were called out around 5.20pm and luckily there was nobody inside the house.
Mr Smith said the only thing remaining from the roof was the metal.
“The roof space was all gone,” he said.
“There was smoke and heat damage throughout the house.”
