Comets rise to occasion

THE Casey Comets will again take part this year at the highest level of club soccer in the Women’s Premier League, and will again be the only team in the area providing the opportunity for girls and women to compete at such a high standard.
Players come from all over Victoria to wear the Comets playing strip – travelling huge distances to train three nights per week and play competitive matches on weekends.
The club will implement at Women’s Premier League (WPL) pathway program for this season, which falls under the guidance of head coach Ian Williamson.
The Comets offer girls of all ages, from nine upwards, the opportunity to play competitive soccer. They will be entering a girls’ team specifically for younger players, and also junior teams in the under-14s, under-16s and under-18s – leading into the Premier League side.
Soccer is going through a huge transformation in Australia and is experiencing massive growth, with more young people than before taking up the sport.
With the success of the Socceroos in the Asian Cup, and the A-League getting stronger by the year, clubs around the country have had to adapt, and this year the Casey Comets have started training early and extended their season with extra training across all ages.
In addition to the Comets having the only WPL side in the area, the club also competes in the men’s State League 1 and has experienced a 30 per cent increase in membership this year, which will continue to grow. The club’s playing facilities have also recently increased to five pitches to reflect the rise in participation.
The Casey Comets are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and the club will hold a number of events throughout the season.
The Comets are always on the lookout for sponsors to come on board to help support their players. For more information, visit www.caseycomets.com.au. The club is always welcoming new players on board. Anyone who would like to get involved should send an email to dawnstone@caseycomets.com.au.
