A NEW primary school in Cranbourne East is well on its way after its first stage of development was officially opened this month.
Principal Brendan Marrinon said it’s been “a really good year” for St Thomas Apostle Primary School and was thrilled to be part of the official opening of the school’s first stage on Wednesday 5 November.
Member for La Trobe, Mr Jason Wood MP opened the general learning areas and administration facilities which were blessed by Father Peter Slater.
Mr Marrinon said the students first worked out of St Agatha’s in February until they moved into the multi-purpose hall at their new school in March.
Mr Marrinon said it was around June when the students began to work out of the stage-one building and said there is plenty more development on the way.
“We were very excited to have it officially opened,” he said.
“We only have 85 families so we are one of the smaller schools in Casey right now.
“We’ve had a few challenged but we are going really well.”
He said the next stage will involve six more classrooms within a two-story building.
“It will be quite a landmark school,” he said.
“The design is quite visionary.”
He said there is plenty of space for more infrastructure and the students have all adapted very well.
Mr Wood said the completion of this first stage will mean students can continue to get a great education.
“The Government believes in an education system that puts students first,” Mr Wood said.
“We are committed to helping equip all Australian students with the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world by creating the best possible learning environments.
“Everyone who worked so hard to complete this crucial first stage has shown exactly what can be achieved by a school with strong leadership and a clear vision for the future.”
