Spate of fires

By BRIDGET SCOTT

POLICE do not believe three grass fires within 24 hours of each other in the City of Casey are connected.
The first occurred on Friday 24 October around 11.50pm in Hampton Park.
Police believe young children have lit the fire which burnt grass between Laura Drive and Kirkwood Crescent.
Both police and CFA crews attended and a witness has told police that they saw a “silver people mover” in the area around the time of the fire.
The following occurred around 4.20am on 25 October at a reserve off Bonyalla Drive in Cranbourne West.
Police believe this fire was also suspicious and the CFA attended.
Children have lit a fire underneath the playground at this reserve with all of the equipment burnt and is now inoperable.
Less than an hour later at around 5am, a fire occurred in Doveton between Lillypilly Avenue and Murtle Grove. It was lit on a rubbish pile and also caught on to a fence.
