New art spaces… new art

By BRIDGET SCOTT

THE City of Casey’s young artist’s time to shine is here again, with applications now open for people to display their work in one of council’s three art spaces.
Applications for interested artists are now open to showcase their works next year, with two new art spaces just opened in the area. These spaces have been added within the Cranbourne and Doveton libraries.
City of Casey councillor Geoff Ablett encouraged all local artists to get involved.
“Council encourages artists working in a range of mediums to apply including those who specialise in painting, print making, photography and drawing or sculpture, ceramics, jewellery and textiles,” he said.
He said no matter how experienced the artist, the council has urged them to come forward.
“The council will offer three great spaces in 2015, giving more artists the opportunity to display their works in highly visible spaces to the community,” he said.
“The Art Space program is one way council is working to showcase the talent and diversity of local artists, as well as strengthen and support the arts community.”
Casey’s art spaces are open to both individuals and groups with applications to close on 31 October.
The latest exhibition by Monique Clift is also set to be unveiled at the Civic Centre Art Space.
This exhibit is entitled Avian and included a wide range of works which feature birds and the natural environment.
Councillor Ablett said Monique was a great, local inspiration to other up-and-coming artists in the area.
“Monique explores a range of printmaking techniques, creating both delicate and striking works,” he said.
“Originally drawn to the patterns and textures of birds and their environments, Monique examines the personalities and rituals of birds and how these qualities can be reflected in human behaviour.”
He encouraged local residents to head along and view her work which is displayed at the Civic Centre Art Space, Magid Drive, Narre Warren from 22 October until 5 December.
