Art take to gym

By BRIDGET COOK

CORAL Park Primary School’s gymnasium was turned into an art gallery last week.
The Hampton Park school hosted its first art expo on Wednesday 10 September to give students the opportunity to showcase what they have been working on throughout the year.
The school band and choir opened the expo, before parents and friends flooded in to see the vast range of artworks on display.
Teacher Kelly Oakley said the works were visual arts, incorporating multimedia – what they had been focusing on throughout the year.
“All students from Prep to Grade 6 have been conducting an inquiry in to the arts and have worked hard to create an array of visual artworks including paintings, drawings, sculptures, paper work, collages and clay,” she said.
“The seniors also added a multimedia aspect by creating films for the Tropfest Film Festival.
“Many of the student artworks had iPad QR codes attached with links to the students being filmed talking about the creation of their works.”
Ms Oakley said the teachers were also involved, each being required to create a piece of artwork out of some modelling clay.
“An extremely popular competition was then run with the students trying to guess which teacher created the artwork,” she said.
