Bears consume Eagles

Southern Football League & Victorian Amateur Football Association

SFL & VAFA

DIVISION 2 football did not treat Doveton Eagles kindly with the Caulfield Bears snaring a 24-point triumph in the SFL’s first round.
Doveton Eagles made a huge jump out of the blocks with a nine-goal-to-three opening term – spearheaded by 2013 SFL Division 3 best and fairest Mark Mott (three goals), Corrie Wilson (two) and Enayte Samadi (two).
The run-and-carry attacking game style abandoned Doveton Eagles in the second term as Caulfield fought back into the match before taking the lead early in the third quarter.
Doveton Eagles could not match pace with the Bears in the final term and were downed 16.13 (109) to 13.7 (85).
In Division 3, Endeavour Hills continued to fly high with a crosstown beating of local rival Hallam by 10 points.
The Hawks seized the lead in the third term before the Falcons swooped to kick three goals and capture their second victory of the season. Shane Peake drilled three goals for the Falcons while Matt Robertson had a trio of his own for the Hawks.

VAFA
St Francis Xavier improved to a 1-1 record with a 66-point belting of Power House. Sticking in the clash through the first term, Power House fell away after quarter-time as Ben Spencer (four goals) and Brent Sheers (three goals) found their kicking boots.A solitary goal after half-time summed up a dog day for Power House as the X-Men thumped home seven of their own to take the 13.11 (89) to 5.3 (33) victory. Lucas Day, Sam Burns and Leigh Andrews were best afield.
